Hi,
I am looking for a good Jewish History curriculum for our 4-8th graders. I can see 4th and 5th going through the Little Midrash says and the older Sand and Stars? Anyone doing this or similar? Anyone have sheets made?
Thanks,
Daniel Presberg

I teach 8th grade American History and teach WWII closer to the end of the year. I would like to include a unit on the Shoa, but am not sure how to gear it for such young students (this is a topic normally covered by seniors in high school). I have the Project Wittness book, but am looking for ideas on how to present it to the girls, what to include, hashkafic points to cover, etc.
If anyone has taught this in the past or has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I have been teaching Jewish History to 6th graders for 6 years. I use Sand and Stars and have a set of worksheets on the first volume. I'd be happy to help you.

Dear Rabbi Presberg,
Teaching elementary school students Jewish History is so important. I feel that the teaching of this topic should start when they begin learning Navi. This is to avoid the common confusion regarding understanding the difference between the periods covered in Chumash and the periods covered in Nach. For example, when they start learning Navi that is a wonderful time to study the period of the Shoftim. In my years of teaching Historia I have found that the order of events is more important than remembering specific years. Rabbi Shmuel Yaakov Klein, of Torah Umesorah Publications recently published Bimeshach Hadoros- The Flow of the Generations. This booklet contains a great overview of Jewish History. Also make use of the other wonderful Historia materials by Rabbi Haber published by Torah Umesorah Publications.
Hatzlacha.
