For High School Principals -

Has anyone had a non-matriculating student in school, attending only some of
the school day (i.e. only limduei kodesh or chol)? What was the reason, how
long did it last, and were there effects on the rest of the students?

Thank you,

Rabbi Raphael Landesman

When I was principal of the HS we had a student being home schooled for general studies through the public school system. He was unable to follow in  the classroom. He attended kodesh for "social and religious reasons". This was a special case. He was accepted as such by the other students and remained with us through twelvth grade.

Reb Refoel,

There are many cases where a student might attend part of a day of school, usually kodesh only, rarely chol only, and this might continue for the entire high school career. Sometimes this is at the school's request, others at the parent/student's.

I think it's important to consider whether this is one of 5, 10 or 50 students in a grade when judging it's impact on the school and other students. When there is an amicable relationship between family and school, and there is a clear (and unique?) need/benefit for this set-up, I would be in favor of doing it if it wasn't to the detriment of the school or class, or not worse than the alternative (having the student leave completely or be in completely)

I'd be happy to discuss particulars with you if you want.
