I teach first grade, and I have a student who finishes his work quickly, gets bored, and then disrupts. Any ideas for what I can give him to keep him busy? I realy don't want him to get ahead of the class, as this will just perpetuate the problem.

I would give him cross words, word finds, a coloring book, something that will keep him busy. He can take it out when he finishes his work. That way he has something to keep him busy that won't dissrupt anyone else. Give him a whole book of them so that it is his and he can pull it out and keep working in it. that way he doesn't get up everytime he finishes a page. It might take a few times for him to get the picture but he sounds smart so eventually he will figure out the new routine.

Hi when i taught second grade  as a  rule I have an assortment of things that a child can do and move onto when they are done. some of these are for individual student and some are for pairs.  they include a box of books, games that I felt where educational  or good for social skills, I also had extra "work" that could be done, including mazes, sheets for strengthening word skills.

I teach Kindergarten (ages 5 and 6) in a day school. When a student is finished his/her work I try to give them an activity based on what we are learning but a step up. For example; I am teaching the alef-bet and nekudot, for one of the brighter boys in the class I had him write the alef-bet with different nekudot, my class is not writing yet. Or when we learned colors, He wrote the words in Hebrew using the corresponding color.
