There seems to be a debate brewing between the tried and true
chinuch approaches via which we received our own chinuch and
training and a "new and improved" methodology which
borrows heavily from other educational disciplines, such as Kiruv
rechokim and special education. A careful review of chinuch
history reveals that all of the great Yeshivos brought a new
angle or approach to the table that was seen as necessary for the
times in which they existed. Yet, all also clung tenaciously to
Torah true principles that are at the bedrock of Yiddishkeit. Rabbi Milstein maintains that we need a matrix of which draws
from the best of both worlds. Our children desperately require
the old world context of "hemshech hadoros" and also a
connection to Torah and Mitzvos which is uniquely their own. |
