I use this approach - I also include photo.  In the first term  I do them, in the second term we review them with the child and so they are encouraged to make stuff for them or asked that their work be saved in them.

I have just begun to use portfolios and work samples in my program of three year olds.  This year, I chose the work samples to include in the mid-year and end-of-year collections.  Next year, (I am looping with this class) I will include the children in selecting their samples.  i am also looking to hear from other teachers who currently use this approach!

I would like to hear how other teachers use "work sample" portfolios in their programs. Do the children pick what to put in? How do you share them with the parents?
