Title: summer opportunities Post by: zuravin on March 19, 2010, 09:39:45 AM Greetings from St Louis, we have an annual problem of trying to find jobs for our girls over the summer, many of them cannot afford summer camps. it's a problem for them to stay in st louis the whole summer as there is really nothing for them to do. I am looking for job opportunities and ideas, thanks!

In that vein (only far more useful), why not put your girls to work contributing to the Hebrew Wikisource project (http://he.wikisource.org/wiki) by typing in the texts of important seforim to make them widely available in digital format. There are still large parts of the Shulchan Aruch and some sifrei mussar that simply don't yet exist online for free (even if they can be found at hebrewbooks.org in analog formats). They can learn to type in Hebrew, get some superficial familiarity with sifrei kodesh and feel they've really enhanced limud hatorah at the same time. They are part of a regular bunk, are off for all major trips, and in general have the camp experience for free or at a reduced rate. I believe most camps have these opportunites availabe (usually CIT age).
Another option would be to find a well supervised bungalow colony that has counselor positions and accomodiations. The salary should cover airfare and expenses, and many times girls can work as mothers' helpers or babysitters at night as well. A third option for older girls would be to particpate in project SEED.
