Title: Recess ideas Post by: Ephraim-In-S.E. on February 10, 2010, 03:14:34 PM For recess time - Any ideas for healthy outlets or games, that could be suggested to the elementary age students who DON'T like sports? (it's probably a minority in our school, but significant nonetheless) - if they don't like sports they end up playing a physical game (cops and robbers, king and army, or the like - they have a good imagination!) - which may start off okay but usually ends up with some of them upset/or feelings hurt, and just seems unsafe, or they climb on big snowpiles which the school administration considers unsafe and discourages). Keep in mind they like the outdoors and have a lot of energy!
- One answer someone suggested was to play a game with them like catch or passing around a ball where there is no real winner or loser, just an activity that they could all be involved in and ecourages them to all participate. Sometimes kids who don't like sports, don't like the competitiveness (and pressure) of it, but do like playing ball. - Another idea that I thought of, was to have an area of the schoolyard where an adult (teacher, rebbi) could lead activities like races or contests types of things that they do in daycamps. That might be more difficult to implement, but I think it's a good idea anway. Any other ideas?
