Title: Do inflatable cushions help ADHD symtoms?
Post by: yaichenbaum on November 08, 2009, 08:20:30 AM
Children who are fidgety or who have ADHD are sometimes helped by inflatable cushions such as "Disc O' Sit."  What is your experience with such devices?

Other children are naturally curious at first, but the novelty soon wears off.  This has been my experience.

I attached a research study on the effectiveness of the disc-o-sit cushion on maintaining attention to task.

This study found that the cushions are effective when used for 2 hours per day.

I have had a number of students use this cushion or a similar type.  Most knew if it helped them or not after using it a few times.  For some of the children, it was very helpful as it gave them a way to move in a more controlled (and less distracting!) manner.  In fact, I would just love to purchase a few to keep in school for kids to try out and use when needed.  Anyone find a place to get them at a reasonable cost?
